Welcome to my website where I am sharing my articles, letters and thoughts pertaining to current health care issues. I have worked in the industry for several decades as a staff nurse in ICU and telemetry, college associate professor, research nurse, Captain in the Air Force Reserves, nursing supervisor, as a travel nurse on telemetry units. Utilizing the “Z” track method to my career has facilitated a comprehensive and historical viewpoint of patient care at many levels. Returning to the “bedside” between career positions has assisted in solidifying perspectives through personal experience. I have also worked in many different types of hospital settings: VA, military, tertiary, research, and teaching hospitals. I have worked in six different states in various positions:
- Wisconsin as a nursing student (and NA while getting my degree) at Marquette University – BSN
- Illinois as an ICU staff and transplant nurse at the VA, mass casualty trainer in military service, and an educator at a 3-year diploma nursing program
- Alaska as a Captain in the USAFR (summer encampments) – Elmendorf AF base hospital – trained airmen to work in ICU
- Missouri as an ICU staff nurse
- Minnesota as an ICU and telemetry nurse, associate professor at AD nursing programs (Saint Catherine’s University) , a research nurse, nursing supervisor at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, and a clinical supervisor for Normandale Community College RN refresher course. Staff nurse at Fairview, Methodist, Allina, Hennepin Faculty Associates, & Masonic Nursing Home. Obtained a MA degree at Saint Mary’s University in Health & Human Services Administration. And most recently, as an at-the-elbow trainer for Epic medical records for Mayo Clinic (2018), a travel nurse supervisor for Essentia Virginia Hospital (2020); and faculty at Inver hills Community College (2021-2022). I also work as a Covid19 vaccinator for Scott and Carver Counties, MN to present.
- California as a travel nurse on telemetry/step-down ICU units – Kaiser Permanente
